Profile

Ed’s expertise in the hydrogeology of salars — the high, salt-encrusted basins found in the arid Altiplano regions of Chile, PerĂº , and Bolivia — has been a valuable asset to M&A since the early 1980s. Much of his work has focused on designing and overseeing field operations for exploration programs associated with planned and active mining operations, both in the U.S and in South America. He has extensive experience designing and overseeing drilling, construction, and testing operations for large-scale production wells, monitoring wells, and piezometers. In addition, Ed has used his modeling skills to evaluate the effects of groundwater development in both brackish and fresh water environments, as well as to assess water supply and dewatering requirements for mines. One of his recent projects for a copper mining operation in northern Chile involved applying sonic drilling methods and double-ring infiltration tests to investigate salar–groundwater interactions and vertical groundwater gradients.
