Mining Hydrology

Montgomery & Associates personnel have experience providing comprehensive hydrogeologic services to domestic and foreign mining clients for more than 40 years. Many prominent mining companies are long-term clients who have come to rely on our skills and experience to support their operations.

Challenges for mining clients can range from satisfying requirements for additional water to the handling of excess water, as well as various water quality concerns. Our services are provided to open-pit, underground, and in-situ mining operations.

Where additional water supply is required, Montgomery & Associates can conduct exploration for water resources and then design and supervise construction of production wells and pumping systems to most efficiently utilize a groundwater reserve. Conversely, we can devise and implement dewatering programs for open-pit and underground mines. We also design, supervise, and analyze data for hydrologic testing programs to assess the feasibility of in situ mining and help clients develop injection and recovery systems. Montgomery & Associates can identify and monitor containment of mine operations discharge and design interceptor wellfields to capture impacted groundwater. To help our clients plan for the future, we use computer models to project long-term effects of mining operations on groundwater and surface water.

Every step of the way, Montgomery & Associates facilitates positive and productive interactions with regulatory agencies, public outreach campaigns, and, if necessary, litigation support. Our extensive experience with the hydrogeologic and regulatory issues encountered in conventional and in situ mining operations ensures that our clients manage their ventures effectively and efficiently.
