GIS & Database DevelopmentWe use GIS tools to analyze and present large spatial data sets — efficiently and effectively.

M&A’s GIS experts have the skills needed to store, manage, and analyze a range of spatial information in a single, comprehensive system. This spatial information may include map layers of topography, hydrography, well locations, well construction data, water levels, aquifer parameters, water quality parameters, streamflow, vegetation, and precipitation, and other data. Because GIS tools can graphically depict subsurface relationships in multiple dimensions, they are invaluable for presentations, reports, and permit applications.

Our database management systems allow users to effectively store and retrieve data for internal management, regulatory, and cost-containment purposes. They offer a range of standard and optional features: a lab and field data interface, simple data validation, and a user-friendly selection screen, along with integrated graphing, mapping, and reporting capabilities. All data is linked through a GIS interface that allows users to develop templates for data reporting and graphing so they can satisfy their reporting requirements. We can also train clients to assist with day-to-day data management operations.

Applications

Hydrologic modeling. We use GIS for groundwater flow models — both to develop input parameters and to display results.

Reconnaissance and planning. GIS is ideal for conducting reconnaissance-level analyses for watershed-scale projects. It is also an effective tool for municipal, industrial, and mining clients who require water-resource economics analysis and planning.

Mining projects. GIS is also valuable for mining projects because we can create two- and three-dimensional animations that show how conditions change over time and space. We can also generate three-dimensional block models to characterize complex aquifer systems.
